Closing out 2024 turned into a bit more drama than I would have liked. As I was constructing the ‘year in review’ post for Christmas I cracked the screen on my laptop. The crack left the poor beast thinking I was touching the touchscreen all the time and thereby made bloggery nigh on impossible.
Living in the middle of nowhere has its benefits but swift delivery of new technology is not one of them. ….and then transferring information from one hard drive to another always seems like it should be much simpler than it actually is…… (believe me when I say that this is the much abbreviated version of the story.)
Our adventures in the last couple of weeks include our furnace dying in a -25 cold snap, replaced 2 1/2 weeks later (not a good thing in Alberta winter), the starter motor in the truck dying and left abandoned on the main street in town over New Year until everything reopened (also not ideal in winter) and the heat bulbs in the pumphouse both blowing resulting in frozen pipes (and no running water)
All situations have been successfully resolved …and for the most part resulted in significant upgrades….so in the name of using up lots of bad Karma early in the year….hooray for us…….
….and now back to the conclusion of the 2024 travel tale…..the next travel post should wing its way to your inbox on Friday ….
Well I was wondering where you guys were!!!
Glad to hear you’re well and back on the grid

oh dear, none of that sounds like fun! I’m glad you got it all fixed eventually. I see you will be above freezing for a couple of days….that will be nice I’m sure.

Well woman, you were definitely living the life of the pioneer.
Cannot imagine how much wood you burned through waiting for your furnace to be replaced.
Now as to water, did you boil snow? Were there places open to buy drinking water?
Being without transportation as well, I hope that was at least a different time frame than needing drinking water.
Hopefully your neighbors were not away on a Caribbean cruise, and were able to give you lifts to where you needed to go!
And lastly I may have been tempted to take a sledgehammer to the computer before any files were transferred. You must have inherited some of the highlanders’ stoicism to get through without being mad and or divorced.
I am sure Scott was non plussed by the never-ending malfunctions (NOT).
So as you say life Hopefully will come to balance on the positive side of the scale for a bit to even the odds.
Cannot say you are stuck in tedium 😵💫
Stay well physically and mentally, you need strength to live like a pioneer. 🙆♀️
Good to hear from you as always,
Carolyn
Ps. What is news of your mom?

LOL…..we actually took the woodburning fireplace out and replaced it with a propane stove that looks like a woodstove. Much more efficient…….and the removal revealed a frighteningly poor installation of chimney and lack of insulation…so all good in the end….
We managed to get an oil rad ( electric) in to the pumphouse to warm it again before any pipes burst…..and went to the neighbours for coffee for a couple of hours to let that unfold…..so again…not down for long…but good lesson.
We have a second vehicle for just such an occasion….since we live far enough from town and neighbours plus…it allows us to go different places at the same time if we need to.
The tech people did have me reduced to tears a couple of times……but….all fixed in the end. Scott just went in the other room and turned the tv up loud…lol…
I will email you a mom update….
